Con’s Consumptions 2/15

These past couple of weeks I've been context switching a lot between my personal life and work. I kept trying to think of a clean-cut thing to write about, but there just isn't one. So instead, here's a roundup of some things I've been consuming during this time.

Shows I’m watching

  • Shrinking. I cannot stop recommending this show to people. If you have talked to me recently, there is an 80% chance I have told you that you must watch it.

  • Summer House is back on. It’s the last Bravo show that I have left standing. I used to love Vanderpump Rules & RHONY too, but without those, Summer House is it. I know that the new Vanderpump has started, but I just don’t think I can bring myself to watch it. Nothing will replace the old show for me.

  • Leanne Morgan has been someone new I’ve found, & I watched her show Leanne on Netflix plus her stand up specials. I just think she offers a perspective that isn’t really out there in the sitcom or comedy space.

Movies I watched

  • The Royal Tenenbaums. Over the last couple of months I have had a few different people recommend this Wes Anderson film. I see why people recommended it. I love how it represented this dysfunctional family & their healing journey.

  • The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Apparently, I had a Ben Stiller weekend last weekend (he also had some Super Bowl commercial cameos). This was another rec from a friend. I thought this was such a cute movie & a good reminder to take risks.

Music I’ve been listening to

  • Into the Mystic by Van Morrison. This is obviously an old one, but new to me. I’ve had it on repeat all week. It makes me feel so alive listening to it. I was at the gym jamming so hard to it & wrote in my notes app all the things this song feels like.

  • younger days by Joy Oladokun. Joy posted a video about her Grand Ole Opry debut this past week & it led me to listen to more of her music. I’ve heard younger days before, but this week the song just clicked with me & I now have a newfound appreciation for it.

  • DON’T YOU SEE ME TRYING by Erin LeCount. This song got released over the last couple of weeks. I saw someone post about going to an Erin LeCount show in Chicago & was like, “who is this?” Another hyperfixation song for me right now.

  • Lights Burn Dimmer by Fred again.. & Jamie T. Fred is on his last leg of the USB shows he’s been doing & he released this new song on 2/13. This tour started with him planning to do 10 cities & 10 new songs over 10 weeks. He extended it to do a residency in NYC & now London, where it’s ending. It’s been so fun seeing what he’s going to release every Friday. He also makes the album art for each new song from that week’s show. I feel super lucky I got to see his USB show in San Francisco in December.

Food & Beverage I’ve consumed

  • Pliny the Younger. I got to try Pliny the Younger for the first time this past week. It’s from Russian River Brewing & it’s a limited release once a year. It’s become quite the cult classic for beer lovers. I’ve been wanting to try it for years, but it just hasn’t worked out. Certain bars in SF get a limited number of kegs, & Casements in the Mission tapped theirs on Monday afternoon, so I finally made it happen.

  • Homemade wings. I hosted some friends for the Super Bowl & I always hate takeout wings. They always end up so damn soggy. It just isn’t the same as having fresh wings, so I decided I’d take a stab at making them. They turned out great & were super easy to make. Here is the recipe I used.
